Power BI - New Feature Highlight - Certified Reports

Certified and Promoted reports in Power BI

Overview

As your organisation begins to master the potential of Power BI for the communication of insights and data strategy, and more users develop the capability to access and create reports, useful information can often get lost in the fold of everything going on.

This update aims to alleviate that problem, so you as a user know which report is the right one, so you have 100% confidence in the data and reporting you are using to inform decisions.

Features

  • content owners can promote their own content so other users are aware of the report they are referencing clearly

  • By promoting or certifying reports, Power BI will ensure those reports get better visibility across the web and mobile BI platforms, ensuring the right stakeholders can find it

  • Endorse reports and apps, as well as their datasets and data flows.

Why we think you might find it useful

With wide-spanning teams and the onset of remote and flexible work, it’s easy to lose important reports or get lost in the most recent updates of key informational touchpoints within an organisation.

The certification and endorsement feature in this months latest update will help alleviate some of these problems by allowing key stakeholders to endorse all OR some of the key components which make up a report. Resulting, for example, a back-end database update which connects to the report may have just been completed, so the key data scientist or analyst in your organisation or project can endorse the data and the dataflow within a specified report.

These endorsements give clarity about updates as well as confidence in the metrics that the reports are generating to inform key business decisions.

We also believe this is a good step in the direction for creating the clarity needed in organisations when it comes to really believing and understanding the workings of their data science function and the value it can provide the business and its customer base.
